One of FIRE’s most important experimentation facilities, openly accessible to experimenters since 2009. NITOS testbed is designed to achieve reproducibility of experimentation, while also supporting evaluation of protocols and applications in real world environment. It offers a wide variety of tools for conducting experimentation-oriented research on the physical, MAC, networking and application layers of wireless networks as well as on the switching/routing and the application layer of wired networks.
PerformLTE tesbed follows a holistic approach combining different type of equipments, LTE radio access emulators equipments, Evolved Nodes B (eNBs), User Equipments (UEs) both commercial and engineered to provide measurements, and an Evolved Packet Core (EPC) emulation system. All these elements can be combined and experimentation can be performed in all the components of a LTE network. In general terms LTE connectivity is provided through three different solutions, each one with a focus on a different research aspect, moving between emulation and real-world environments, three main scenarios can be differentiated based on the radio access type:
The FUSECO Playground covers the entire technology spectrum of a Next Generation Mobile Network - from end devices across various access & core networks up to an open set of application platforms, supporting data, multimedia streaming and mobile cloud applications, including mobility and handover testing. It integrates various state of the art wireless broadband networks into a 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (EPC) prototype platform, offering the benefits of the latest developments in Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Networking (SDN) and cloud technologies. It also features an Open IMS Core solution including relevant enablers.
OpenAirInterface (OAI) is an open-source SDR-based wireless system technology platform targeting innovation in air-interface technologies and networking protocols through experimentation. The platform implements an LTE system and certain LTE-Advanced features, and comprises both hardware and software components that can be used for in-lab system experimentation as well as real-time RF experimentation using RF or emulated wireless link. It provides the entire protocol stack from the physical to the networking layer.
